Trump’s Triumph: Unite

A US President uniting the world like never before, not fake news
Rahman Mohamed

Donald Trump was voted America’s man in October 2016.  Unless he does something seriously wrong and is forced to leave he’ll have a chance to be given the opportunity to become America’s great leader again until 2024 (just before the FIFA World Cup is hosted by Canada-USA-Mexico).  Since the Great Election, USA has been divided.  On Election day Americans believed they were being forced to choose the lesser of two evils.  Today many say they chose the greater rather than the lesser.

Agreements indicate President Donald Trump is a divider.  Some say he is a bully.  Reports suggest President Trump may be the greatest force to unite the world since WW2 and the Cold War.

To Cheer or Not to Cheer, That is a Fear

Is it safe to NOT cheer for Canada?
Rahman Mohamed

Hockey male-femaleIt’s confirmed.  Canadian Men and Women have been eliminated from the hockey finals in PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.  Even though hockey is the Canadian sport and Canadians have a 6-month practice season, the men and women have both been held back from Gold.  Despite a nail-biting end in a shootout Canadian women were kept away by the detested Americans; they will return North with Silver around their necks.  A loss to Germany in the semi-finals has sent Canadian men to the Bronze competition with Czech Republic.  Gold-Silver will be a battle between Germany and Olympic Athletes from Russia.  The question now: if you’re a Canadian are you allowed to cheer for the opponent?

You’re Not Alone in Feeling Alone

A spreading health problem: loneliness.
Rahman Mohamed (Updated 14 December 2023)

In the UK Prime Minister Theresa May created the “Minister of Loneliness”.  Studies suggest that loneliness can be as unhealthy as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.  Loneliness can be not being with another person.  For some loneliness is a way of life, working from an apartment and living without a roommate.

Others experience loneliness because of isolation – cut off from other people.  Some who is around or with other people but is separated and feels loneliness.  It can be physical isolation, not having anyone to be with because of where you are.  Even though you’re in a packed office you’re cut off from everyone because you’re in a cubicle.  Because the bathrooms are private the only place you talk to co-workers is at the water fountain or while you’re in line for the bathroom.  When commuting anywhere you’re on public transit and not with someone you know.

Isolation loneliness is also experienced because of exclusion, not with others because they don’t want you with them, aka the high school popularity effect that leaves you alone to suffer loneliness.  Someone who lives in Canada but doesn’t drink and know how to play hockey is left out of the weekly Saturday bar night when people talk about their week, plans, and themselves, not just Nazim Kadri and how he’s playing against Montreal.

CBC The Current recently aired a short radio piece discussing the issue of loneliness with two doctors on 21 November 2023.
