To Cheer or Not to Cheer, That is a Fear

Is it safe to NOT cheer for Canada?

Hockey male-femaleIt’s confirmed.  Canadian Men and Women have been eliminated from the hockey finals in PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.  Even though hockey is the Canadian sport and Canadians have a 6-month practice season, the men and women have both been held back from Gold.  Despite a nail-biting end in a shootout Canadian women were kept away by the detested Americans; they will return North with Silver around their necks.  A loss to Germany in the semi-finals has sent Canadian men to the Bronze competition with Czech Republic.  Gold-Silver will be a battle between Germany and Olympic Athletes from Russia.  The question now: if you’re a Canadian are you allowed to cheer for the opponent?

The Canadian Game in the Canadian Classroom

Educating students about Canadian culture and life (and letting them cheer for Gold)!  The true Canadian way!

Yesterday at Sochi Canadian women shot the puck to the back of the American net to win the Gold Medal Final in Women’s Hockey.  Today, the Men’s Semi-Finals, Canada vs. USA (#CANvsUSA for both on Twitter).  Around the world Canadians came to a halt, not just students on Reading Work in the Great White North or employees who’d “called in sick”, but the Canadian Embassy in Washington DC, Toronto City Council, the Press Building in Sochi, and schools.

Why? Students weren’t just watching hockey, they were learning about Canadian culture and the Olympics and lessons in life.

Today Canada is watching Russia; it’s not just because there aren’t any NHL games on but because the Canada’s skating fast and not letting the cold freeze its medal count for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

In between each game there are ads from firms that sponsor Canada’s Olympic team.  Many have advertised increasing support for children’s sports and athletics.  Besides physical activity, does playing sports have other advantages?
