To Cheer or Not to Cheer, That is a Fear

Is it safe to NOT cheer for Canada?

Hockey male-femaleIt’s confirmed.  Canadian Men and Women have been eliminated from the hockey finals in PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.  Even though hockey is the Canadian sport and Canadians have a 6-month practice season, the men and women have both been held back from Gold.  Despite a nail-biting end in a shootout Canadian women were kept away by the detested Americans; they will return North with Silver around their necks.  A loss to Germany in the semi-finals has sent Canadian men to the Bronze competition with Czech Republic.  Gold-Silver will be a battle between Germany and Olympic Athletes from Russia.  The question now: if you’re a Canadian are you allowed to cheer for the opponent?

John Tory: The Lucky Mayor Winning Moneyless Bets

He doesn’t dominate the slots but he could dominate the bar

Toronto sports teams.  With fans they’ve been a joke for years.  A win by a Toronto team was considered a miracle.  Recently, as they actually improved, entered the post-season and won games , even championships they’re getting more respect from fans and rivals too.  Toronto is considered the city to have the most loyal fans, fans that will support the team even if they’re dead last and have no chance; proof: Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, and Toronto Blue Jays have had full stadiums and sky high ticket prices even when their records were bad.

Nobody has found the most loyal and fanatic fan; selfies and media are always trying to out-perform.  There’s a competition: where will you see the crazy fans – Instagram, TV, local paper, in person.

Toronto’s mayors have always been involved in fandom, trading in the suite for a jersey during playoffs and declaring support for the team in open council and to the media.  Whether or not Mayor John Tory is a crazy loyal fan is not known.  What is known: he’s the good luck charm for Toronto teams, knowledgeable about sports, the mayor of a city with teams that have drastically improved, or just lucky.

Canadian Wolves Set to Enter Europe in 2017

toronto-wolfpack-logoToday the top news in Canada: Toronto FC in the MLS final, the first time a Canadian team has won the Eastern Final and will play in the Championship.  It’s a fact.  There are rumours that Montreal will be re-entering the MLB and Vancouver is set to re-join NBA.  Today Toronto is the only Canadian city with a team in MLB, NBA, NHL, and MLS; next year there’s going to be another Toronto: Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto FC will be sitting next to Toronto Wolfpack, the first transatlantic sports team, aka the first sports team that crosses the Atlantic just to play in a league – the RFL (Rugby Football League).

Just south of Queen St, between Bay St. and Dufferin St, Lamport Stadium, The Den, will join BMO Field, Air Canada Centre and Roger’s Centre as home ground for a Toronto team.  Rugby is in the vocabulary of many Torontonians but what’s missing?  The Laws
